Building on the success of the previous Christopher Heights of Marlborough project, SMOOK was commissioned by The Grantham Group to begin the rollout of another assisted living project.
The project consists of a design for a 56,000 SF, 83-bed assisted living facility located at a vacant site scouted by the Client. The site was once a Commonwealth of Massachusetts state hospital facility and has been subject to many master planning studies of the past 25 years. Request for proposal was issued by the State and Christopher Heights was selected to building on a portion of the Northampton site.
The prototype design was modified based on the site conditions. Additionally, brick cladding for the base of the building and other elements were introduced to marry the aesthetic of the architecture into the vernacular of the adjacent historic buildings. The architecture of the building blended well with both the existing Hospital Buildings constructed in the early 1900s and other new residential low-income developments recently constructed.
