Located in the historic city of Gloucester Massachusetts, SMOOK Architecture partnered with The Grantham Group in responding to an RFP for Senior Housing. The infill site was fairly narrow with a steep grade and a rock outcroppings at the rear of the site. Our solution was to design a three story residential building atop a ground level of parking. The program included 27 one-bedroom apartments of approximately 950 sf each. A Common Room was created at the Storefront Facade on the Ground Level overlooking a new “Pocket Park”, allowing Seniors to be engaged with the sidewalk activity. A trellis-adorned Roof Terrace was created at the top level of the building allowing Seniors to relax with long view of the waterfront. The project has yet to be awarded.
